Adira sighed, finally content with herself and the situation. As far as she knew, everything was in order; the crank was long gone, and everyone appeared to be accounted for. The lass paced toward the front of the group, just as she previously was, however, a specific silhouette of another wolf came trotting along into the area with a limp corpse on their back. Adira halted mid-step, amber eyes glaring at the wolf layered over the male's spine. It looked oddly familiar. She paced forward briefly as the supposed Runner talked with the Chief along with Jun and a few other wolves, however the Mexican lass preferred to stay out of it, for now, at least. Yet, noting the small crowd clear up slightly, Adira approached the cadaver, now having a full recolonization of who is was. "Jackaal?" She barked lowly, confusion portrayed across her features. Gritting her teeth, her ears tucked themselves in as she felt her chest tighten. The dame may not have known the male for long, he was still a packmate to her. "What are we going to do, now?" Adira managed to question, her optics surveying every other expression in her viewing range.

Avner flattened their ears as commotion broke out again. It didn't seem like it was the crank again, so they got to their feet and turned to Malakai and Eclipse. "I'm going down to see the pack. You guys can come if you want, I think something else is happening," they said to the two wolves, tilting their head a little before trotting off. They arrived at the gathering of wolves and peeked underneath the legs of Safire. They froze. A limp wolf was on the back of Leon, his head lolling and pelt matted. They felt a chill run up their spine. Did someone die from the crank? they thought, terrified, Or did they die from the heat?Avner hoped it was the latter, despite how terrible it still was. The Flare could infect dead bodies, at least that's what Milk told them. The pale pup looked around for Scorpion, but they couldn't spot him yet. Their stomach begun to feel sick with worry... Leon finally caught his breath after he spent moments panting in exhaustion, and could speak again. "Jax... I found him in the middle of the sand storm up ahead... when it was still light... I thought he was just unconscious and lifted him on my back..." he managed to say in between, every time glancing at the deceased male laying helplessly on the ground, cold and unmoving. "When I found myself again he stopped breathing... his heart stopped beating... he was just gone.." he said and walked over to the grey-black male, giving him a last nudge to make sure he was not possibly still moving. Nothing... nothing but an empty, cold body... "Rest in peace... Jax." he whispered to the male.

Diablo had shock written all over his face as the Runner, known as Leon, came walking up. Jackaal rolled off his shoulders, and he went closer to inspect, pressing his nose tightly in the chest to feel for a heartbeat. There was nothing but an empty body. He lifted his head and spoke in an emotional, but honest voice. "I knew from the start he would be one of the first ones to go. I saw it coming. He was not strong enough to handle all of this." he said looking up to the rest. "But I kept it quiet and tried to handle it myself. I take the full blame for the death of this innocent soul." he said in a bitter voice and turned his head to his warrioress, Adira, who asked the rest what they had to do now. "Exactly what we did in our previous pack." he said looking over to his sister. "Give him the respect he deserves and leave him behind." he said bitterly. He lowered himself to his haunches, gave the rest a glare and lifted his chin to the glowing red moon, letting out a deep howl from his voice.

Camilla watched everything that happened around her. A painful feeling shot through her chest as it was announced that Jackaal was already dead. Even she, a healer, could do nothing for him now. First her adopted son was deceased, now Jax... Everything was falling apart. She looked emotionally at her brother as he mentioned the tradition in their older pack, and his deep voice filled the air with a mournful howl. Cami dropped down in a sitting position, taking a deep breath and joined into her brother's howling with her sweet, feminine voice.

Eclipse nodded to Avner as she stood to her paws looking down towards Malakai "Lets go see whats happening" she spoke slowly heading towards the group, noticing they looked up set "What's happe...." she stopped mid sentence as she saw one of the runners lay on the ground and by looks of the others he had died. A sad look came on her face as she dropped her ears, she did not know him but he was still part of the pack "rest well my friend" she said as she sat down and took a deep breath as she joined in with howling. The combined howls were beautiful. Avner didn't know who the wolf was, but everyone was sad that he was gone, and they should pay their respects to them. They observed that the wolf was black and white, underneath all the sand.
Whoever you are, I hope you had a good life, and have a good afterlife. Rest in peace. they thought, tipping their head back and joining in with their own silvery howl.
Addressed: X Mentioned: The howlers, @jack Notes: rest in peace (also, off topic but all this howling reminded me of the series The Wolves of the Beyond, and there are these wolves who howl stories to the moon and theres this whole spiritual thing and its super cool so chuck the books a read if ya want lol)

Adira sighed as she listened to the dark male, Diablo, answer her question. Her eyes diverted from his and onto the black and white dappled male that the reddish Runner hauled over. "I..." Was all she managed to stutter before her voice was interrupted by a group of howls that erupted out of her fellow wolves' throats. Adira tilted her glare, listening to their somber calls, Adira was almost unfamiliar with these sorts of rituals preformed on the deceased, however, the lass found the gesture rather loyal. Adira soon intered in the group of sorrowful howls, it had been awhile since her last howl, yet the warrior could continue until the end of time.

Glancing between Avner and Eclipse, Malakai mutely acknowledged both of their words. As ze frisked towards the center of the pack, ze hummed sanguinely. Whatever had happened could surely be no worse than a demented crank assaulting the warriors. Upon reaching the numerous wolves, ze quailed at the sight of the body laying lax upon the back of the runner. Bile involuntarily rose in zir throat as ze watched the corpse be slung unceremoniously to the ground. Hoping to have zir suspicions rebuffed, ze cast a pleading look towards Eclipse. Realizing that he was indeed dead, ze glowered at Jackaal's corpse. As ze took a couple hesitant steps closer, Max ogled his body in a mixture of intrigue and repugnance. Ze hadn't really seen much for dead wolves- unless the soulless, flare-infected creatures counted as dead. As the wolves around zir howled in mourning, Malakai added zir raspy keen to the cacophony. Leon stood in front of his Runner-partner and scanned him for anything that might move. There was nothing except for the breeze blowing through his fur, making it even worse to look at the male. His final belief was stopped when their Dominant spoke his thoughts about Jax, that left a sting in his chest. 'It's not your fault alpha...' he thought to himself. As he was still letting go, the howling of the rest started, and he looked up in wonder to this respectful way to greet a rather unknown friend. He seated himself and lifted his chin to meet with the glowing ruby colored moon, and joined into the mourning for Jackaal...

Lioness was silent, her expression was cold and scared, did not like losses. Her companions began to howl, she joined with low ears and closed eyes. "Rest in peace, Jack... I hope we meet again" Leo thought, perhaps could not know very thoroughly, but it was a valuable friend. Upon finishing her howl, she stopped for a second to look at all. "I hope I die when I have puppies" She thought, really did not want to disappear without trace. Leo had no words, then she sat down and bowed her head, her ears still down.

Malakai's quavering yowl gradually cut off like a scratched disk. Ze opted to listen to those around zir, rather than waste zir already grating voice. Ze vacantly regarded the radiant light of the sun bleeding carmine streaks and hazel sparks across the desert. The breathtaking scene was a sharp contrast to the traumatic events that had occurred beforehand, and unfortunately, it did little to cure Malakai's internal turmoil.

Astra was palpably stultified, moving sternly with the sashay of a horse with their head dipping after every step. They had not realized they had tuned their surroundings out and turned to face the pack as they bayed dolefully.
They drew in a rattly gasp from between clamped teeth, tending more toward sympathy. They swore and dashed closer. "Wh-what happened--" they stopped themselves, realizing how embarrassing it was that they had dissociated in such a moment, and instead spat out, "oh, goodness."

WindShear turned around at the mournful, bellowing howls. "What's the co-" The female cut herself off when her eyes laid upon Jackaal. "Jackaal.... vad hände med du...??" She whispered to herself in her native language. "Vila i frid, kära vän.. Jag kommer att sakna dig." WindShear then turned to Leon, as he was the one who brought Jackaal back. "What happened to him?" She asked, slightly translating herself.
